Ultrasound technologists, also known as ultrasound technicians, utilize sound waves to generate images of internal organs and tissues for medical diagnosis and treatment. This field of medicine is referred to as sonography.

Using specialized ultrasound equipment, the technologist captures readings of specific areas and angles as requested by the physician, then forwards them for interpretation.

Unlike other diagnostic imaging methods that involve radiation, ultrasound is entirely safe for both the technologist and the patient.

Most ultrasound technicians are employed in hospitals or diagnostic imaging centers. They must maintain good physical condition to effectively maneuver patients during ultrasound procedures.

Candidates for certified ultrasound technician positions must have completed an accredited education program. Additional preference may be given to ultrasound technologists registered with the ARDMS.

Individuals with a background in general radiology or healthcare often pursue additional education to qualify as sonographers. Ultrasound technologists must continuously update their skills to maintain valid certification.

Job opportunities for ultrasound technologists are on the rise due to the increasing demand for qualified diagnostic imaging professionals in hospitals and other medical treatment facilities.
