General Practitioners

A general practitioner (GP) is a medical professional specializing in
treating both acute and chronic illnesses, as well as offering preventive
care and health education across all age groups and genders.
They possess specialized skills in managing individuals with multiple health
conditions and co-morbidities. A proficient GP approaches patient care by
considering both the individual and the broader population.
The term "general practitioner" or GP is commonly used in the Republic of
Ireland, the United Kingdom, and various Commonwealth countries. In these
regions, the term "physician" is typically reserved for specific medical
specialists, particularly those in internal medicine.
In Malaysia, individuals can qualify as GPs after completing four years of
compulsory service with the government. GPs were among the pioneers in
providing private healthcare services in the country.
