CT Technologist

CT technologists operate computerized tomography (CT) scanners to generate
cross-sectional images of patients' internal organs and tissues, aiding in
medical diagnosis. They must accurately interpret physician instructions,
administer contrast materials, operate CT equipment, and position patients
for optimal image capture.
Given the physical demands of maneuvering equipment and assisting disabled
patients, CT technologists should maintain good health. Additionally,
adherence to safety protocols is crucial, as CT scanners emit radiation
posing risks to both technologists and patients. Employment opportunities
for CT technologists are primarily found in hospitals and diagnostic imaging
centers.
To qualify for CT technologist positions, individuals typically complete an
accredited educational program in radiology and obtain registration with the
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Many CT technologists
transition from a general radiology background, undergoing additional
training to specialize as CT scan technicians.
The demand for qualified diagnostic imaging professionals, including CT scan
technicians, is increasing across all specialties. Those with advanced
certification or experience can expect higher salaries. In Malaysia, private
hospitals offer competitive hourly wages for CT scan technicians, along with
benefits, travel reimbursement, housing, and partial expense compensation.
