Surgical Scissors

Surgical scissors are specialized instruments primarily employed for cutting
during surgical procedures. They encompass a variety of types including
bandage scissors, dissecting scissors, iris scissors, operating scissors,
stitch scissors, tenotomy scissors, metzenbaum scissors, and plastic surgery
scissors. Crafted from highly durable stainless steel, surgical scissors are
engineered for enduring resilience. Some scissors feature tungsten carbide
reinforcements along their cutting edges, enhancing their sharpness and
prolonging their lifespan.
Two main types of scissors are commonly utilized in surgeries:
• Ring scissors resemble conventional utility scissors, featuring two finger
loops.
• Spring scissors, primarily used in delicate procedures like eye surgery or
microsurgery, possess handles terminating in flat springs connected by a
pivot joint. The cutting motion is achieved by compressing the handles, and
upon release, the spring action facilitates the opening of the jaws.
Surgical scissors are available in different blade configurations, including
blunt/blunt, blunt/sharp, and sharp/sharp.
Materials commonly used in the construction of surgical scissors include
stainless steel, zirconia ceramic, nitinol, and titanium.
