Radiotherapy & Oncology

Introduction
The Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology at Hospital Kuala Lumpur serves
as the premier national referral center for oncology. In addition to
offering radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, and palliative care
services, it spearheads the advancement of Radiotherapy and Oncology
throughout Malaysia.
The department is currently located opposite the Institute Kaji Saraf Tunku
Abdul Rahman (IKTAR), within Hospital Kuala Lumpur. In late 2001, the
department underwent a significant upgrade with the installation and
commissioning of a state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator (Linac), a Treatment
Simulator featuring integrated digital imaging, and a 3-D Treatment Planning
System as part of the Three-In-One package project. The new Linac is
equipped with multileaf collimation, enabling the delivery of conformal
radiotherapy and Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT).
Presently, the center treats approximately 4000 new cases of cancer annually

physicists, 41 Therapy Radiographers, 94 nurses of various specialties, and
