Pediatric Surgery

Introduction
The Department of Pediatric Surgery was established in 1990 and has since
expanded its services to provide a comprehensive range of surgical
interventions for neonates, children, and adolescents, excluding cardiac and
neurosurgery.
Location
The administrative offices and surgeons' rooms of the department are
situated on the second floor of the Institute Pediatric.
- Ward KK4: Located on the second floor with a capacity of 38 beds.
- Ward KK7: Situated on the third floor with 24 beds.
- Ward KK8: Serves as a step-down ward for neonates transitioning from KK9
before discharge.
- Ward KK9: Houses the neonatal surgical ICU equipped to ventilate at least
7 neonates.
All beds mentioned above are categorized as third-class beds.
The surgical outpatient clinics are situated on the second floor of the
Institute Pediatric, shared with the Pediatric Orthopaedic Unit.
Additionally, the Surgical Day Care Ward is located in the Day Care Unit,
also on the second floor of the Institute Pediatric.
Services
The department serves as both a secondary and tertiary referral center for
children under 13 years old requiring surgical interventions. Apart from
providing outpatient and inpatient care, the department receives referrals
from across Malaysia for specialized surgical procedures and postoperative
care.
The department emphasizes the practice of daycare surgery whenever feasible.
Currently, the subspecialties offered include Hepatobiliary Surgery,
Urology, Colorectal Surgery, Oncology, and Thoracic Surgery. There are plans
to expand services to include liver transplant procedures in the future.
