Introduction

The Otorhinolaryngology Head & Neck (ORL H&N) department at Hospital Kuala Lumpur was established in 1957. Initially a small unit, it has since evolved into a comprehensive department offering consultancy, management, prevention, and rehabilitation services for ORL H&N conditions. With the rise in Ear, Nose, and Throat diseases, the department has expanded its team of consultants, specialists, clinical specialists, and medical officers to enhance patient care. The addition of audiologists and speech pathologists further strengthens the rehabilitative aspects of the department's services.

The primary objective of the ORL H&N department is to deliver a comprehensive, efficient, and current Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck service. This encompasses treatment through a multidisciplinary team approach, as well as emphasis on prevention, rehabilitation, training, and research. Additionally, the department serves as a national advisory resource for the Ministry of Health of Malaysia.

As part of its national advisory role, the department regularly engages in discussions and consultations with other state hospitals. Most state hospitals offer services provided by ORL surgeons, audiologists, and speech pathologists. Hospital Kuala Lumpur also extends its services to other hospitals in the Federal Territory, such as Labuan Hospital, with ENT specialists visiting Hospital Labuan every two months.
