Introduction

The Nursing Service Division operates as an organized professional entity within Hospital Kuala Lumpur and reports to the hospital management through the Chief Matron. Its primary responsibility is to provide clinical, managerial, and educational support to ensure the delivery of exemplary nursing care in accordance with established professional standards.

The division strives to cultivate a customer-focused environment that addresses the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of individuals. Additionally, it is committed to enhancing the quality of working life for nursing personnel and fostering opportunities for their professional growth.

Services

The Nursing Service Division at HKL is overseen by a U42 Chief Matron. This division extends support services to all areas requiring its expertise and is subdivided into 13 clinical nursing areas, each led by a U42/U36 Matron.

Delegation of Functions

i. The Chief Matron assumes overall responsibility for the organization, direction, coordination, and oversight of nursing services, reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Medical Services at HKL.

ii. Chief Matrons are tasked with ensuring the efficient administration and functioning of clinical nursing areas.

iii. Area Matrons are responsible for the operational management of specific patient care within the Nursing Service Division.

iv. Clinical Nurses (U42) are responsible for delivering comprehensive patient care and providing Continuous Nursing Education for fellow nurses.

v. Nursing Sisters oversee the administration of patient care within designated units.

vi. Staff Nurses provide personalized care to patients within nursing units.

vii. Community Nurses and Assistant Nurses assist in delivering patient care within nursing units.

Personnel Management

All newly recruited nursing personnel at HKL are required to report to the Chief Matron upon commencement of duty. They undergo orientation at three levels:

1. Central Orientation, organized and conducted by the Training Unit & Continuous Education Centre.
2. Area Orientation, conducted by the respective Area Matron.
3. Unit/Ward Orientation, conducted by the Nursing Sister of the respective unit/ward.
