Introduction
The Neurosurgery Department at Kuala Lumpur Hospital stands as the largest
in the country and operates as the National Referral Centre. At the
forefront of advancing patient care, we prioritize the provision of top-tier
services, facilitated by cutting-edge facilities including sophisticated
multimodality intensive care monitoring systems, advanced radiodiagnostic
tools, and state-of-the-art Operating Suites. As the premier Neurosurgical
Centre, we actively contribute to shaping national policies related to
patient care, training, and research.
Services
Situated within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Neuroscience Institute on the
premises of Kuala Lumpur Hospital, the Neurosurgery Department encompasses
two main wards with a combined bed capacity of nearly 80 beds catering to
adults, along with a dedicated 32-bed children's ward. Additionally, we
boast a well-equipped 7-bed Neuro Intensive Care Unit and a 4-bed High
Dependency Unit. Our 3 Operating Suites are outfitted with cutting-edge
equipment such as operating microscopes, high-speed drills, ultrasonic
aspirators, and intraoperative ultrasonography.
As the leading neurosurgical center in the nation, we offer comprehensive
services and consultations across a wide spectrum of neurosurgery fields.
The surgical offerings include:
- Neurotrauma: serving as the primary referral center for the country
- Paediatric Neurosurgery
- Management of hydrocephalus, including endoscopic 3rd ventriculostomy
- Vascular Neurosurgery, encompassing neurointervention and radiosurgery
- Adult Neuro-oncology
- Treatment of intracranial sepsis
- Stereotactic-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
Collaborating with neuroradiologists and oncologists, we also provide
endovascular treatment for intracranial lesions and stereotactic
radiosurgery.
The Neurosurgical Clinic, situated on the ground floor of the Institute,
operates daily from 8 am to 1 pm. Appointments must be scheduled in advance.
